Cruise Lines Begin Rehiring For Restoration of Business

Crew members recently reboarding a Carnival Cruise Line ship in St. Maarten.

It looks like movement in the cruise industry as some lines are quietly recalling some crew members that been repatriated since spring because of the industry shutdown.  Among those rehiring is Royal Caribbean for Quantum of the Seas cruises out of Singapore doing test runs starting in December.

Royal Caribbean International has also hired people on contracts lasting through the end of March 2021.  All hires currently are in Singapore.

There is also recent news that Carnival has hired a number of people, sending them to the Caribbean to reboard several ships.  It’s not known at this time if these ‘rehires’ were part of an early effort to begin reactivating a few ships, or if they are replacing crew members aboard a number of idle ships.  All rehires are undergoing a 14 day quarantine period before starting work.

One item being reported is that crews will be under a very strict watch once sailing begins.  They’ll not be allowed to randomly go on shore in ports until further notice.
